Students, staff and families have raised almost £2000 for Haiti. Sixth formers have responded by organising a ‘Hats for Haiti’ Fancy Dress Day on Friday 29th January which raised over £700 and the rest of the school soon followed.

Other events included an online cake raffle of teacher Mrs Mansfield O’Donnell’s legendary coffee and walnut cakes and a staff v sixth form football match.

Young people in other year groups also did their bit, including Y7’s disco for Haiti. A Y8 band combined charity with creativity by playing their own ‘Song for Haiti’ in assembly on Wednesday 3rd February. Y8s also organised a tombola to run on 5th February, which was also a non-uniform day for the whole school.

Joseph Chapman, a student in Y8 said, “ I was shocked when I saw it on the news and felt sorry for the families, the loss of children and parents.” Bridget Johns, also of Y8 added,” We have a responsibility because we are able to help so there’s no reason why we can’t.”
